In this week of Tobin Tonight, we get musical.  Join us as we welcome Newfoundland actress, Petrina Bromley to the show.  Petrina talks about her career as an actress and a music director. Petrina discusses how this lead her to the musical, "Come From Away"  and the very interersting tale of how being in the right place at the right time got her the part on  the hit musical.   Come From Away is set in the week following September 11th, and tells the true story of what transpired when 38 planes were ordered to land in the small town of Gander, NL. The characters in the musical are based on (and in most cases share the names of) real Gander residents as well as some of the 7,000 stranded travelers they housed and fed. The musical has been received by audiences and critics as a cathartic reminder of the capacity for human kindness in even the darkest of times, and the triumph of humanity over hate. Tom tells us about his first time on air and what he had to learn in terms of being a good host, and what he enjoys about hosting and the difference in being on a team compared to just being a one man show (pun intended) We also discuss a former host of the Q and how uncomfortable questions and situations can sometimes give you good material or things you can learn from. In this episode of Tobin Tonight,  Tobin chats with the great, Natalie MacMaster.  Natalie has numerous awards under her belt.  She has several Artist of the Year awards from the East Coast Music Association, two Juno Awards for best instrumental album and has won Fiddler of the Year from the Canadian Country Music Association.  She has been honoured with the Order of both Canada and Nova Scotia as well, not to shabby for a girl from Troy, Nova Scotia.    Tobin and Natalie talk about how she got into fiddling, the sucess it has brought her, and how its has such a huge impact on the East Coast lifestyle.  Natalie disccuses how she has taken what she has learned through the process and has passed it down to her children as well.   Natalie also opens up about having a child with down syndrome and making them feel included and what lessons and memories she wants her kids to have when she is gone.  So check out the episode!

In this episode of Tobin Tonight, we welcome Newfoundland singer/songwriter Damian Follett to the show.  I have grown up watching and listening to Damian as his song/video, No Second Chances would get a ton of plays.  To have Damian on the show was amazing.  Damian spoke about the song, trying to create a number one hit in Nashville and to keep persuing what you love.  He also discusses the amount of talented singers/performers in Newfoundland but just not having the same resources as the bigger markets to really gain exposure.  It's a great interview but I'm being bias,  check it out for yourself

In this episode of Tobin Tonight, I head home to Newfoundland to chat with some of OUR local talents making names for themselves in the entertainment industry.   With over 20+ years in the industry, including a JUNO Award in 2002 I figured it was a good starting point to welcome Karen, Maureen, Teresa Ennis  also known as the Ennis Sisters to the show.  The three talk about their career,  who is the most demanding and whinest, and just have an easy going chat on how three females from Newfoundland became mainstays in the music scene in the province.

Episode One was fun, so we decided to keep it going.  In this episode of Tobin Tonight, we welcome another member of the Rankin Family clan who also decided to try her hand at a solo career.   The One, and Only Heather Rankin.  With the Juno's being in Ottawa and Heather nominated for a Juno and an East Coast Music Award, we asked the tough questions like which she prefers the most?  Especially considering this was her first time nominated as a solo act.  She has  won six Juno Awards, three Canadian Country Music Awards, an American Country Music Television Award and fifteen East Coast Music Awards, all with the Rankin Family.  Heather also discusses the making of her latest record, A Fine Line and we discuss the loss of her sister Raylene, who she was very close to.   All of this and we find out how some of the Rankin's got their nicknames like Cookie, you won't believe what Heathers was/is.  Listen in to find out.
